Capcom adds a new type of play to RE5.

Capcom will be giving Resident Evil 5 players a new way to play shortly. The company shared today first details on a new "Versus" mode of play, which will add competitive play to the game via a paid download.

Versus mode allows up to four players to to face off in two modes of competitive play: Slayers and Survivors. Slayers is a race to collect points by defeating the game's Majini foes. Survivors has players taking aim directly at one another. Each mode can be played free for all or in teams.

This new mode is confirmed to support play as either Chris or Sheva. Although not directly addressed by Capcom, screenshots appear to show other playable characters besides these two.

Both PS3 and 360 players will have access to the mode on March 26. The PS3 version will sell for 250 yen with the Xbox 360 version going for 160 Microsoft Points. 360 owners will need to be Gold Members in order to play online.

Although Capcom made mention only of Chris and Sheva, screenshots also show off Wesker and Jill, presumably as playable characters.
