Hatsune Miku Project Diva is a new PSP rhythm action game featuring vocaloid (vocal android) Hatsune Miku, a virtual character from Crypton Future Media's Character Vocal Series of music synthesis programs. Hatsune and a bunch of other vocaloids are at long last set to make their gaming debut, as Sega announced today a final release date of July 2 for the game.

For me, that wasn't the biggest news to emerge from the Hatsune Miku stage at today's Yappa Asobinasai 09 event in Odaiba. Sega also revealed that the game will offer players 39 costumes. Included are outfits from Space Channel 5 and Valkyria Chronicles!

The Valkyria costume.

The game's official site has a pic of the Vakyria outfit, which I've pasted to the right. For the Space Channel 5 outfit, you can see this midway through this Dengeki Online article.

Based off the Dengeki report (I was unable to attend today's Asobinasai for myself), the phrase "39" was a recurring theme at the stage event, with Sega promising 39 new pieces of information (in Japanese, 39 can be read as "mi-ku" if you're being cute). Let's see if they managed to get that high.

The game now has an official name: Hatsune Miku Project Diva. Yes, this is the same as the previously announced name, but apparently it was unofficial until today.

In addition to the date and name, Sega announced a 6,090 yen price point, making it a bit higher than your standard PSP game.

Players can look forward to 39 songs, of which 7 were selected by users. 32 of the songs can be used in the game's rhythm play sequences.

Sega also announced a few new artists who will be taking part in the game. See the Dengeki article if you're interested in figuring out who everyone is.

Also debuting at the event was the game's The Secret Garden opening theme along with the opening movie.

Kagamine Rin and Len will be appearing in the game, Sega also revealed. These are additional vocaloids.

Sega shared a few technical bits on the game. Did you know that the game uses motion capturing for its character movements? Now you do!

Finally, Sega unveiled a pre-order bonus for the game. Those who put their names down at the retailer of their choice will get a Nendroid Puchi Hatsune Miku Project Diva figure. You can see this figure towards the bottom of the Dengeki column.

The above information probably doesn't add up to 39, but there's more buried within the Dengeki article for those who want to explore further.

I'm planning a trip to Asobinasai tomorrow, so if I manage to get some hands-on time, I'll put up some impressions here.
