Wii owners throughout Japan may find their system flashing blue when they get home today. Power up the system, and you'll find an important message from Nintendo.

The message concerns Wii Sports Resort buyers. Apparently, those who play a Wii Ware or Virtual Console game via the system's SD Card Menu, and then proceed to boot up Wii Sports Resort, end up viewing an movie about how to connect Wii Motion Plus to the Wiimote. The movie is only supposed to be shown once when you run Wii Sports Resort for the first time.

Nintendo has determined that the problem is with the Wii's firmware and is planning on a firmware update to fix the issue. Details will be provided at a later date.

As a temporary fix for those who absolutely can't live with seeing that Wii Motion Plus movie, Nintendo suggests copying Virtual Console and Wii Ware titles over from SD to the Wii's main memory before playing them. The Motion Plus movie will not run if this is done.

Direct SD card booting for Wii Ware and Virtual Console titles was one of the big features for Wii's version 4.0 firmware.
