Capcom announced today that it has partnered with with Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR) to bring a new form of 3D facial animation technology to the just announced Sengoku Basara 3.

The Kyoto-based ATR has developed AniFace, a tool that allows content makers to create lip synchronized facial animation using recorded voice data and dialogue information. With this tool, creators can implement large amounts of voice data in less time than was previously required. The tool supports both English and Japanese.

Capcom began evaluating the system in May 2008. Sengoku Basara 3 will be the first time the tool is being used in the video game world.

Aside from a general setting, Capcom has yet to share specifics on Sengoku Basara 3. The company has not even announced a platform for the game.
