Toro and his friend (and secret lover) Kuro have been supporting the PlayStation 3 since launch through the system's free Mainichi Issyo app. And boy have they been working! They may even end up in the Guinness Book of World Records.

One of the main components of the Mainichi Issyo app is Toro Station, a free daily broadcast in which the two cats deliver news and promotional information. The broadcast has been aired daily since the PS3 launched, and is about to reach its 1,000th episode.

Sony believes the feat of having 1,000 consecutive days of game content distribution is deserving of note in the Guinness Book of World Records, and will be formally applying for recognition.

The big 1,000th broadcast hits on August 4. Sony provided a couple of preview shots today.

The Mainichi Issyo app, available on both the PS3 and, as of last October, the PSP, has seen over 700,000 downloads, Sony also said today.
