Nintendo hasn't provided an indicator of how successful its Mac de DS service has been thus far. But today we have somewhat of a hit. McDonalds announced today that due to a favorable response for McDonalds Travelers, a promotion that pairs the service with Square Enix's Dragon Quest, it has pushed back the promotion's end date from September 3 to October 1.

As detailed in July, McDonalds Travelers is an original Dragon Quest-themed battle game for the DS, which can be downloaded at McDonalds Nintendo Zone areas. You're limited to one play session per day, but playing the game five times earns you a coupon for a free Hamburger.

As of August 31, over 1 million people have downloaded the game, McDonalds said today.

In addition to the mini game, DS owners can use McDonalds as a general hot spot for their DS. For Dragon Quest IX players, this means access to downloadable quests and "shopping catalogues," which offer a chance to purchase rare items.

Previously McDonalds teamed with Square Enix to offer a red afro item to players. This item will continue to be available following the start of the extension. Additionally, McDonalds said to expect nine rare wedding-themed avatar items.
