It's been ten years since Metal Slug X. Time for a revival, wouldn't you say? Enter Metal Slug XX. SNK Playmore announced the PSP title today, along with a release date of December 23 and a price of ¥5,040.

SNK Playmore promises a title that makes full use of the PSP's specs for gorgeous 2D sprite visuals. The game includes seven stages, some with multiple paths that feature different enemies. Two players will be able to team up via ad-hoc play.

Outside of the main stages of play, the game will include a "Combat School" mode featuring over 70 tough mini games doled out by a hot instructor. XX's version of Combat School adds a new high rank known as "Demon King."

Fans of SNK Playmore gaming in general have something big to look forward to. Joining the regular cast of Metal Slug soldiers will be two KOF characters: Ralph and Clark. These two have access to special attacks.

Check out the game's official site for a closer look. SNK Playmore also sent out a trailer clip which you can stream here:

But wait! There's more! This is actually the most important part. Those who pre-order Metal Slug XX will get a pair of underwear. Here's a sample image:

SNK Playmore notes that the final product may differ from the above. Also, quantities are limited, so be sure and ask your game shop in advance if the underwear is guaranteed.

  • So they celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Metal Slug X by rehashing 7. Fitting since X was the content-complete version of 2. Filtered low-res sprites from 1996, 4:3 aspect ratio on a 16:9 native display, and the previously M.I.A. 2-player mode from 7. Praise be to SNK.

  • But they promised a game that makes full use of the PSP's power for gorgeous graphics :(

(I thought that maybe they were just bad screenshots.)

  • The Combat School and character select screens look 16:9 and native resolution, so I guess they weren't lying. MS is in need of a serious re-boot like KOF got. Maybe in 2011 for the 15th anniversary.
