The Tales of Graces characters aren't exactly old as far as Japanese RPG characters go. But players will get a chance to see them in even younger form throughout the course of this latest Tales game.

Namco Bandai has provided a look at characters Aspel, Shuria, Hubert and Richard when they were respectively 11, 11, 10, and 12 years old. You'll get to take control of the characters in young form and witness Aspell and Hubert's first encounter with heroine Sophie.

Joining this look at the younger side of the Graces cast, Namco Bandai provided updates today on two previously detailed areas of the game.

We now have a closer look at the pre-order bonus items that were first shown a couple of days back. As detailed then, pre-orderers will receive codes for downloading Tales of Vesperia costumes for Aspel, Sophie and Sheria, as well as a Special DVD featuring as yet unspecified voice actor content.

A little while back, Namco Bandai detailed Graces' Kamenin Merchant mini game. This dungeon crawling game can be downloaded to your DS via DS Download Play. It will also be available separately as a DSi Ware download.

Joining the previously released information on the mini game, Namco Bandai has provided screenshots showing both the DS and Wii sides of the link. The Wii side shows options for sending out the mini game to the DS and reading data from the DS for saving on the Wii. There's also an option for exporting data to the DSi. It's unclear what this is used for, although it could be for saving your data directly to the DSi.

Finally, a look at the Graces introduction. As usual, the game's opening animation sequence was produced by Production I.G.

  • Now I know the existance of some of the Tales of Graces characters when they were younger, but how does this connect with the story? And what does Sophie's role in it?

  • I presume it will be a flashback of some form, complete with gameplay.

Or perhaps we can expect something even bigger. Namco Bandai went so far as to provide full profiles for the young versions of the characters.

(I didn't get a chance to translate the profiles, but you can see the Japanese versions at 4gamer: http://www.4gamer.net/games/088/G008879/20091016002/)
