Revolutionary Lock-on technology is going digital next week as Sonic & Knuckles hits Virtual Console. Although not originally listed when Nintendo shared the download service's October lineup late last month, Sega announced the addition today.

The Virtual Console version of Sonic & Knuckles will, like most Virtual Console games, replicate the Mega Drive version exactly. Sega's genius programming wizards have even somehow managed to replicate the game's revolutionary lock-on technology.

Those who have any of the three other Sonic games downloaded to their Wii (all are already available) will be shown a special menu allowing for your choice of lock-on game. Select your game, and you'll find the expected bonuses, including the special sphere-like bonus stages for Sonic 1, the use Knuckles in Sonic 2, and the ability to continue Sonic 3 with Sonic & Knuckle's first stage becoming Sonic 3's seventh stage.

Look for Sonic & Knuckles at the Wii Shopping Channel on October 27. Pricing is set at the standard Mega Drive going price of 600 WiiPoints.
