As detailed here yesterday, Nintendo's opening of an official site for Zelda Spirit Tracks brought about a first glimpse at the game's pre-order bonus, a transparent feather stylus.

Today, Nintendo shared a high res look at the item:

The feather stylus will be included for all early buyers when Spirit Tracks hits here on December 23. Nintendo says quantities are limited, but they always say that!

Nintendo also shared a look at the game's box art today. You can compare it to the US packaging here:

  • I wonder whether the better-looking Japanese box art is actually representive of the game.

  • The Japanese boxart captures the sense of adventure that I hope the game will have. It makes me think of Wind Waker for some reason.

  • Its not even just 'the sense of adventure', as a piece of graphics design - the camera angle, colours (more pleasant to the eye), the several elements and their position on the image and in relation to each other, and ESPECIALLY the logo - it is much more elegant. The cover speaks volumes about the sense of absolute-excitement the Zelda player gets when he turns on this thing on his/her DS. Its exhilirating!

On the otherside, the American cover is ... something like a ghost train in the background? Sort of reminiscent of Mario haunted levels. There is a big guy that I care nothing about. OK there are 2 swords,... Ok I get it... its an action game. Feels a little more mysterious than the other but ultimately falls flat because it is ineffective at conveying mood.

    They just don't compare.

  • It kind of annoys me how they always have to make the American cover look "tough" even when it's not what the game is about. Like the Ico cover. Pure ugly.

It's like they think Americans will only buy games that portray violent or aggressive imagery. They changed the Phantom Hourglass box art, too. The US art was also less fun and lively. Ah, well.
