Nintendo kicked off its promised WiiWare demo program in Europe yesterday. The program has now come to Japan through a downloadable demo of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord.

Available starting today, the demo has been labeled by publisher Square Enix as a "special version," as it contains an episode that you won't see in the main game itself. The company suggests that even those who bought the game give it a try.

Screens from the FFCC demo.

My Life as a Darklord was released on June 30. It's now available at 1,000 WiiPoints.

  • After playing the demo, I was not impressed. It seems that the only things I can do with the tower is add more floors and monsters to it. If this game represents the tower defense genre, I may not like it.

  • It gets pretty complex with the different things you can add and the different monsters that appear as the game progresses.

  • And no, this game is not representative of the tower defense genre. It is, however, a game where you defend a tower. I thought this was a demo of The Crystal Bearers. Nintendo needs to put up retail game demos, not demos of games that cost less than my lunch.

You fell for my trap. Bwa ha ha ha ha.
