It looks like Sega's mysterious update at the Yakuza portal was indeed about a Yakuza 4 release date. That date came out in advance today via Famitsu.

Yakuza 4, known here of course as Ryu ga Gotoku 4, will see release on March 18. It will carry a ¥7,980 price point.

Both the date and price are similar to those of past Yakuza games. Yakuza Kenzan, the first PS3 Yakuza game, was released on March 6, 2008. Yakuza 3 was released on February 26 of this year.

Aside from the release date, this week's Famitsu offers a glimpse at a few of the game's sub stories. Sub stories are basically side quests. While not directly related to the main storyline, they allow you to learn more about Kamiyacho and possibly even see an unexpected side of the game's main characters. Each of the four heroes has his own set of sub stories.

Not all the Yakuza 4 goodies came through Famitsu this week. Sega also distributed the latest batch of high res battle screenshots. Check them out in this gallery.

  • I really hope Yakuza 3 does well here in the states so we don't have to wait so long for 4. This game looks so good.

  • Welp. My path is set. Hokuto Musou and RGG4 stand to make March the most MANLY month in 2010.
