When PS3's Fat Princess was suddenly delayed from its original November 19 release date, some speculated that the reason was that the game's characters have four fingers, apparently a no-no in some circles here. Sony itself simply stated that the delay was due to development issues.

Today, Sony shared a new date for the game. Fat Princess, known here as Pocchari Princess, will now arrive on December 25, priced at ¥1,500.

Sony's date announcement also came with new artwork for the game:

Compare that to the old artwork:

Looks like Santa brought new appendages for everyone.

  • I can understand the problem with the four fingers as the number four is considered bad luck in Japanese culture. This due to the kanji for "four" (yon) can be read "shi," the word for "death."

  • It still seems a little excessive, though.
