Call of Duty Tops PS3 Budget Game List in 2009

You already saw ASCII Media Works' top 30 sales ranking of 2009. With exception to Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, budget re-releases were, expectedly, absent from that list.

To find out what was hot in budget gaming for the year, we turn to Famitsu.com, which has filed a report on the matter.

The site's report covers just Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 titles, falling respectively under the PlayStation 3 the Best and Xbox 360 Platinum Collection series. Data covers 12/29/2008 through 12/13/2009.

Topping the PS3 list is Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. While the full priced version of the game was originally released through Activision's Japanese publishing arm, Square Enix picked up the rights for the budget release and the sequel.

Here's the full PS3 list. Figures in parenthesis are totals for titles that were released prior to the tracking period.

The Xbox 360 list was thrown a bit off by Famitsu's decision to include sales of Ace Combat 6 and Beautiful Katamari Damacy's bundle versions. The budget versions of these two titles were included in one of Microsoft's insane value pack bundles.
