Could New Super Mario Bros. end up the top selling game on both Wii and DS?

It was really just a matter of time. Enterbrain announced today that New Super Mario Bros. Wii has become the third Wii game to reach triple platinum status.

As reported at Famitsu.com, the Wii's big year-end release reached 3,002,753 total units sold over the week ending on the 17th. The game was released on December 3, meaning it topped the three million mark in just 7 weeks. This is a new record for the Wii.

Wii Sports and Wii Fit are the other two Wii games to reach triple platinum status. New Super Mario Bros. Wii has a ways to go before beating them in total sales, but it does at least have them beat in speed.

  • I wonder how long it will take New Super Mario Bros. Wii to beat the total sales of Wii Sports and Wii Fit, but I strongly am convinced that over time it will.
