Atlus and Sting Bring Yggdra Union Prequel to PSP
New strategy title on the way for late Spring release.

PSP owners will be getting the next entry in the line of strategy titles that has brought us Riviera, Yggdra Union and Knights in the Nightmare. Blaze Union: Story to Reach the Future, just announced in this week's Famitsu, is a prequel to Yggdra Union, with the same setting and similar gameplay systems.
Blaze Union is set in the Bronquian Empire in an era prior to the Bronquian Empire seen in Yggdra Union. Misgovernment has lead to a fall in security in the empire. You play as Garlot, a red-haired protagonist who leads her "Blaze Knights" in protecting the citizens from the empire.
For the new title, developer Sting will be retaining Yggdra's tactics cards and union systems. When heading out to battle, you select your units, choosing from a variety of classes with varying properties. You also select your tactics cards, which you draw at each turn to determine your moves. The union system lets you line up with your allies to form "unions," opening up additional attack options.
New gameplay features mentioned in the Famitsu article include brand new tactics cards. The game will also offer a tutorial mode, allowing beginner players to get right into battle.
Blaze Union was unveiled for the first time in this week's Famitsu, but the magazine reports the game as being 100% complete. A release through Atlus is set for May 27 at ¥6,279

Yes! Yggdra Union is one of my favorite games. Knights in the Nightmare, and Yggdra Unison couldn't capture that same magic. Glad to hear about a straight sequel. Is this the lost Dept Heaven Ep. III then?

Knights in the Nightmare is a more fair and less random experience than Yggdra Union. I hope they cut back on the randomness/slow battles and playing 'scavenger hunt' for hidden items.

@lech -- From what I can see, Famitsu doesn't have the phrase "Dept Heaven Ep." anywhere in its article, so I'm going to presume no.

A game that's controlled entirely by proxy is "more fair" and "less random?" We must be using different dictionaries. Also, Yggrda is slow? Another "interesting" point.

From my review of the game:
If your unit gets KOed with a critical hit (prettymuch a guaranteed loss since your unit leader is instantly killed), which happens often enough, expect to see a huge hit to their morale. Even normal battles swing between victory and defeat simply based on random factors, basically whether you kill or lose one more or less unit in an assault often determines victory. Enemies being able to randomly crit-kill your unit leader and chop off 1/2 of their morale or battles simply being determined by luck is simply unfair given the penalties involved and time needed to complete each fight. I wouldn't even attempt the game without a guide that shows the numerous items and secrets hiding around each map, especially considering the restart trial and error it would otherwise involve.
Although I bought this game, I still would not be able to choke it down on an actual Game Boy system - the fights drag on long enough even accelerated to 275% of actual GBA speed on my PC.
On the other hand, Knights in the Nightmare is not nearly as slow or luck based. In fact you need to wave your stylus in a frenzy if you want an SSS ranking.

I don't consider the scavenger hunt to be a critical part of the experience in Yggdra. As for the the battle system, you can give as good as you get as long as you obey the rules of weapon type priority, and elemental priority. (Axe beats sword, fire beats ice, etc.) In fact, I found the whole thing to be lightning paced compared to the usual slog of typical SRPG's like Final Fantasy Tactics and the like.
There was too much of a disconnect with the characters in Knights for me to care about any of them. They're already dead, who care's if they "die" again in battle, I'll just recruit some more. Also the battles revolved around needless micromanagement of the similar elemental and weapon type priorities as Yggdra, only through a more cumbersome interface, and enforced by "durability." (Milanor's axe never broke in Yggdra.) Also, a roulette wheel to end the battle? Really? Sting's Dept Heaven games always felt half-finished, but they completely phoned in that one.

Um... Is Garlot really a 'heroine'?
I read from Hokanko of 2ch that Garlot share the same CV as... Yuri from ToV, Toriumi Kousuke.
