Final Fantasy Father Not Too Keen on "Long" God of War 3 Opening
Hironobu Sakaguchi has been Tweeting.

God of War 3 has an opening intro. It looks a little something like this:
Here's what Final Fantasy father Hironobu Sakaguchi thinks about the intro, courtesy of his Twitter earlier today: "A long opening movie. It's nicely done, but you don't need this :) It's movie-like, but you don't need long openings in games."
This comment was quickly picked up by Japanese gaming blogs because -- well, it's the guy who made Final Fantasy, which has gone on to become one of the most movie-heavy games around, complaining about movie length.
In a later Tweet, Sakaguchi commented on the sequence that actually kicks off the game, shown here:
Wrote Sakaguchi, "Naturally, I started on Easy Mode. A Lord of the Rings-like fortress. A real time scene? You can't skip this??? That's annoying. The graphics are, as expected, nicely done."
So what's up with Sakaguchi hating on the cinemas? Someone brought this up in a response to Sakaguchi's Tweets: "Sakaguchi-san, you've changed." To this, Sakaguchi responded: "Games are neither films nor manga. They're game entertainment and should take their own approach."
It should be noted that Sakaguchi isn't ripping on God of War 3 as a whole. His other Tweets are full of praise for the game.
He even wrote a rare English Tweet: "Sorry, my English is poor. lol Now I'm playing GoW3 and write some comments. This is good game !!"
On a completely unrelated note, here's the opening sequence from Sakaguchi's second Xbox 360 project, Lost Odyssey:

first he mentioned about the length and how it's too movie like but then his comment about a game entertainment and take its own approach. well... GOW is doing just that. doing it in a way that that the creator wants.

I agree with sakuguchi - that intro was so unnecessary, if you haven't played it yet the movie is shown before you can even press start... and the 1st time you put the disc in you can't skip it, after a save is made you can skip it but it's pretty audacious of them... The fact that you can't skip any cut-scene (not even the end credits) in the game is really strange as well... now i haven't played lost odyssey but if you can skip those cut-scenes sakuguchi is not contradicting himself... he's not hating on cinemas but the fact you are forced to WATCH them... other than that GOW3 is a well paced action adventure.

Since cutscenes are generally used these days to mask loading, better a cutscene than nothing.
