Perhaps when we get our first real look at Versus XIII, it will be as a multiplatform title.

Final Fantasy XIII was originally a PlayStation 3 exclusive, but ended up making the switch to multiplatform PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Sister project Final Fantasy Versus XIII was also originally a PlayStation 3 exclusive, and has stayed as such since its announcement.

The various Versus trailers that we've seen since FFXIII's multiplatform switch have made it clear that this particular FF game would be PS3-only worldwide. But CEO Yoichi Wada was less firm on this stance during a Q&A session that concluded an investors meeting today in Tokyo.

As reported at Impress Watch, when asked if it would be best to give Versus a multiplatform release on Xbox 360, Wada replied "We'll be looking into it internally until right before the formal announcement."

The question was asked in relation to Final Fantasy XIII and the possibility of the game's Xbox 360 release having helped to extend sales overseas.

By "formal announcement," Wada is presumably referring to the proper unveiling of Versus. While we've seen plenty of trailers for the game, most recently via a short teaser clip at December's Jump Festa event, Square Enix has yet to show gameplay footage outside of some camera-grabbed teaser footage that was shown at last year's Tokyo Game Show.

The game's formal unveiling is widely expected to take place at next month's E3 expo in Los Angeles, although director Tetsuya Nomura has given some hints that it could come later.

  • I wish microsoft would fuck off and die.

If they go multi with it and it delays the ps3 release then seriously...

  • I wonder why Wada is always so coy about going multi. It's the obvious choice in the current market, and has proven itself with vanilla XIII. Once a mainline Final Fantasy game went multi, it was the final nail in the coffin of HD platform exclusives from SE.

  • The exclusive could really win over some of the people who bought FF13 for the 360 to purchase some PS3s.

  • Someone fire this guy(CEO Yoichi Wada)

  • Really getting diasppointed in Square Enix. They're becoming more and more about the money.

What's more, if they're gonna do "charity" and make it into a multiplat, they could at least do a decent job. The 360 port of FFXIII was on the same level as PS3 Bayonetta.

  • Just to balance the comments a bit, the age of exclusivity is over, especially moving forward.

The X360 is too big of an audience to miss and I can understand the pressure the heads at Square-Enix are receiving to go multi. While Sony are fantastic at talking business with third-party, it is not in their disposition to hand out money to 3rd party for exclusivity like the money-hatters that is Microsoft. Sony prefers to spend their money making MORE 1st party games (the correct choice) than to BUY other's loyalty.

Versus XIII will come to the X360.
XIII already broke the taboo - they aren't gaining much from holding back. Square Enix CEO is not at fault. Sony is at fault for doing such a bad job with PS3 launch. And ultimately, the only ones who care are the extreme FF fanboys who have played every single nth FF game ever released and will buy Versus XIII when it comes out anyway. No sales lost.

  • I understand that if it comes out as a multiplatform title since at the end of the day it's all about the business of making money, but I would hope that they have learned something from FF XIII and at least try to ensure they keep more content around this time.

  • Lol and you butt hurt fanboys. If you can afford it, multi-plat is the way to go moving forward as a business. I hope they do announce it for 360 to see more meltdowns.

360 was no reason for lack of content or quality. XIII just wasn't a good game. DEAL WITH IT.

  • what did ps3 get from xbox?
