Final Fantasy XIII launched in Western territories as a multiplatform title, but in Japan the game remains PS3-only.

Now seven months after release, there are rumors going around that the game's domestic PS3-exclusive status may be changing. At the heart of these rumors is an Achievement list that appears at Xbox.com in Japanese. You can see the list here (Xbox Live login required).

XNEWS, which bills itself as Japan's largest Xbox and Xbox 360 information site, reported on this rumor today, stating that in the past, nearly all games that have had their Japanese language Achievements discovered in advance of official release announcement were later given a release. Will the same hold true for Square Enix's prized RPG franchise?

  • I wonder why the delay in the release, as the game's hype has already disappeared (the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII has fallen from the Top 50 software list months ago).

  • All Final Fantasy games sell very well at launch and then fall from the top software list. This is not specific to XIII. A 360 release would restart the hype train. Or maybe not. It's 360 in Japan, after all.

  • I'm personally speculating that Square Enix is planning an international release with English voices, and they'll release both the PS3 and Xbox 360 version at the same time.

  • International version with cool new features that NA gamers will never see incoming.

  • I was actually thinking they'd pull something like this recently. An International version would be the perfect excuse for it.

  • The catch is that the Xbox 360 version is the inferior port, a poor imitation of the original PS3 version. See http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-final-fantasy-xiii-face-off

  • Useless porting.
360 owners who wanted to play FF13 already bought it on PS3

  • Useless, FFXIII PS3 sells for less than 1000yens in Japan now, nobody will buy this.
