Hori announced today that it has cancelled plans to give a general release to Taito's Vewlix F arcade cabinet. As reason for the cancelation, the company said that it failed to get sufficient orders for the ¥498,000 (shipping not included) unit.
The peripheral giant first announced plans to release the cabinet to the general public back in June. Similar to Xbox 360's pricey Twin Sticks EX peripheral, Hori warned that the device would only go into production if it reached a certain number of pre-orders.

I'm still confused about this. I'm pretty sure Taito has warehouses full of these things sitting around. Was this some sort of custom model? Otherwise, what does Hori have to produce here?

I'm not sure myself. It might be that Hori was going to release an officially sanctioned version of the cabinet for home consumption. Never mind that you can already get one from Taito and arcade suppliers if you want -- and for cheaper, it seems.

Apparently they haven't heard of these things called 'tables'.
