Last Remnant may be the fastest selling Xbox 360 game yet
Well... here in Japan, at least.
Posted Nov 22, 2008 at 04:18
Preliminary sales results are in, and Last Remnant may very well have the highest first week total for Xbox 360 software released so far in Japan. That's right, higher than Infinite Undiscovery, higher than Blue Dragon, higher than Lost Odyssey, and even higher than Tales of Vesperia.
The only problem is that it, at the moment, doesn't.
The usually reliable Sinobi retailer blog was updated with the latest early sales stats late yesterday. First the bad news for Last Remnant. It wasn't the best selling game on the Thursday of its release. It wasn't even close. The top two consisted of Chrono Trigger on the DS and Animal Crossing on the Wii, both with around 170,000 units on their first day. Gundam VS Gundam on the PSP managed 160,000 units.
Last Remnant came after this with 78,000 units. Here's the good news, though (unless you're a Tales fanboy). Veseperia, the current record holder for first week sales on the 360, managed just 71,000 in its first day. Remnant now has the record for highest first day sales for 360 games.
That doesn't guarantee highest first week sales, of course. However, with just its first day, it's already in fourth place compared to the first week totals of other games. Tales of Vesperia managed 101,000 units in its first week. Infinite Undiscovery's managed 86,000 units. Blue Dragon got 82,000 units. Below Last Remnant are Ace Combat 6's 66,000 units and Halo 3's 61,000 units. To claim the top spot, Last Remnant will have to sell another 23,000 or so units.
I'm pretty sure it will do it, especially since it's a long weekend this week (although Monday is not included in the weekly sales charts).
In other sales data, Sinobi notes that the software-only version of Animal Crossing did way better than the Wii Speak bundle. How much better? try 7 to 3 in favor of the software version. Guess Wii owners aren't too interested in speaking with other players.
Gundam's figures are the best yet for Gundam titles on the PSP. And there are a lot of them! Battle Universe managed 100,000 in first day sales. Battle Chronicle managed 50,000.
Other games may be bombs, although I'm not sure if anyone was expecting more of them. Prinny (PSP) and Koihime Musou (PS2) sold a bit over 10,000 units. Otome Deus (X360), Clank & Ratchet (PSP), Motorstorm 2 (PS3) and Mercenaries 2 (PS3) sold between 5,000 and 10,000 units.
Last Remnant is the big story, though, so to celebrate its success, here's some art that I got my hands on before the release but just now put them up on the main channel.
And, a bunch of screenshots to go along with the art. There's a whole bunch more screens for interested parties, so click one of the images to go into a gallery view mode.
