Check out 3D Pixel Solid Snake
Let the 3D Dot Game Heroes homages begin!

3D Dot Game Heroes doesn't officially hit retail until Thursday, but some players have already gotten their hands on it. And not only that, but it looks like at least one of the flying getters has some art skills, as evidenced by this custom character that appeared at Hachimaki.
It's amazing how closely you can approximate Old Snake on a 16x16x16 canvas. Maybe Silicon Studios should license their engine out to Konami so that we can get a full 3D Dot MGS.

Since this game includes elements from the Legend of Zelda, it would be nice to see someone create 3D pixel Link or Zelda. It would be really great to see 3D pixel Mario.

Those sound like guaranteed within the first hour of the game seeing full release.
I'm hopeful someone will assemble a repository of character data files, as the game doesn't actually have any built in trading facility.

Wow, I obviously haven't been following this game close enough as I didn't even know you could create custom characters.

Can users import other people's custom characters? I look forward to the naughty bits...

Yes, you can import custom characters. However, from what I know, there's no actual in game interface for exchanging the data. It can be done through file exchange, though.

Even if it weren't possible to import using files, it's not a ridiculous amount of effort to make 16 16x16 image files for reference.

True, but I'm lazy.
